What are Some Good Netflix Alternatives?

If you do cancel your subscription, some of the best Netflix movies and original series will no longer be available to you. That means no more Stranger Things or The Witcher, but if that isn’t a deal breaker for you, there are other good services out there that come at a lower cost. It’s also worth noting that if you pay for Amazon Prime, then you have already have access to Prime Video.

Here are some of the best streaming options available in 2022:

The Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ Bundle

The cost of a basic Netflix membership is currently $9.99 per month, which allows for a single screen to be streaming Netflix at any given time. For just $4 more, you can get the Disney+ bundle that gives you access to Hulu and ESPN+ as well.

This is likely the best option if you’re looking to get the most bang for you buck. You’ll get access to new Marvel shows, Hulu Originals, Star Wars shows, sports, and more for $13.99 a month.

HBO Max

Another great streaming option is HBO’s streaming service: HBO Max. You can get the base subscription with ads for $9.99 or the ad-free version for $14.99 per month. Both options allow up to 5 profiles.

The main draw of HBO Max is it’s original content, however. You get HBO orginals movies and shows as well as content from DC, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, and Studio Ghibli. You also get to watch the biggest Warner Bros. movies like The Batman on the platform as soon as they hit streaming.

It was also recently announced that HBO Max and Discovery+ are being combined into one service, so that will expand the content available on the platform even more.

Apple TV+

If you’re looking to cut down your streaming budget significantly, one of the cheapest services currently available is Apple TV+. You can get a free 7-day trial to test it out and then pay only $4.99 a month. There is also an option to get 3 months of the service for free when you purchase an Apple device.

Although Apple TV+ doesn’t offer a massive library of content like Netflix, it has some of the best original shows and movies of the year. One of its orignal movies, CODA, even won best picture at the Oscars.

Just in case you decide to come back, Netflix saves your viewing preferences for 10 months. To get those back, you’ll need to restart your membership with the same account.

First, go to www.amazon.com and sign in to your Amazon account. Hit Account and Lists in the top-left corner, and pick Memberships & Subscriptions from the menu. Now, head to the bottom-left corner of the screen and find Prime Video under Channel Subscription. Go to Your Channel, choose Cancel Channel next to Netflix, and confirm.

The #CancelNetflix Movement

A flood of Netflix subscription cancellations followed by the hashtag #CancelNetflix in September 2020 raised many an eyebrow.

People usually leave the streaming platform for reasons such as subscribing to other streaming platforms, cutting costs, or losing patience with slow speeds (which can easily happen if, instead of a dedicated VPN for streaming services, you opt for a regular one). #CancelNetflix originated in a completely different place.

Subscribers’ discontent with the service had largely to do with Netflix canceling their favorite TV shows or putting up movies they found offensive. Be it the sexualization of young girls in the French film “Cuties” or alleged religious insensitivity in “Messiah,” viewers tend to take issue with content they disapprove of and punish the streaming platform by cancelling their Netflix subscription.

The Bottom Line

Whatever your reason for unsubscribing, the good news is that Netflix is flexible and doesn’t bound its users with strict contracts and long commitments. Canceling its services is straightforward and without any hidden fees, and you can renew your membership any time in case you have a change of heart.

When it comes to streaming, Netflix is one of the most popular options around. They offer a ton of movies, TV shows, as well as their own Netflix-produced series and movies, quite a number of which have gotten pretty rave reviews.

How to cancel your netflix subscription

The company has several different tiers of subscription, depending on your needs and the device you’re watching it from. This includes:

  • Basic which is priced at $8.99 a month and streams in Standard Definition. It can only be streamed on one device at once.
  • Standard is the next tier at $13.99 a month which offers a HD stream and can be streamed on two devices at the same time.
  • Premium is the highest tier at $17.99 a month and lets subscribers stream at HD and 4K Ultra HD, and as many as four devices simultaneously.

These prices are pretty standard, but if you think that it’s getting a bit too expensive for your liking and for what you’re getting in return, you might want to cancel your subscription. Cancelling your subscription is thankfully rather easy and since there are no contracts involved, you can just cancel anytime you want.

All you need to do is make sure you cancel it before your next billing date and you won’t be billed again, and you’ll be able to watch for the remainder of the billing month.

How to cancel your netflix subscription

You can cancel your Netflix subscription whenever you want, it just all depends on how you pay your bill.

If you’ve deleted your profile that isn’t the same as cancelling your Netflix subscription – you’ll still be billed until you actually cancel.

When you set up your subscription to any service the first thing is to check when the payment goes out your account – we know, it’s something we all forget.

If you then want to cancel you have plenty of time. Next, you need to note how you’re paying for Netflix.

If you subscribe directly to Netflix then it’s easy, just cancel your subscription on the website on the web browser you use.

If it’s iTunes you need to unsubscribe using your iPhone or iPad. There’s also the possibility that you’re using a third-party like your smart TV or a provider like Sky.

First, don’t just delete your Netflix profile as this doesn’t cancel your bill. You will still be charged if you do this.

How to cancel your Netflix subscription using a web browser

  1. Open up your web browser and visit Netflix.com
  2. Click the little downward arrow – it’s in the top right corner and click ‘Account’
  3. You’ll see the button Cancel Membership – this is what you need to click
  4. If you still have the older plans also cancel those you can see those lower down on the page

You may not see the Cancel Membership option which probably means you are signed up using a third-party. Instead, you’ll see who you pay for Netflix, whether that’s a smart TV company, iTunes and so on. Contact this company to cancel.

Some apps make it difficult to cancel your account, in the hopes that people will get so frustrated with the process that they end up keeping their subscription. Luckily, Netflix isn’t one of these apps.

It should only take a few minutes to cancel any Netflix account. The only hiccup is that you’ll have to remember how you signed up for Netflix in the first place.

Here’s how to cancel Netflix in three ways, depending on how you made your account. If you’re not sure which one applies to you, try them out in order.

Quick tip: If none of these methods work, contact Netflix support directly to see who’s managing your subscription.

How to cancel your Netflix subscription if you signed up directly

If you created your Netflix account through the website or a smart TV, this is probably the method you’ll want to use.

1. Open any web browser and head to the Netflix website. Log into your account if you haven’t already.

2. Click the downward-pointing arrow in the top-right corner of the page and then click Account.

3. Near the top of the page, under Membership and Billing, click Cancel Membership and confirm your decision to cancel.

4. If you still have a DVD plan, click Cancel your DVD plan and confirm that you want to end it too.

If you don’t see the option to cancel your account here, it means that you signed up for Netflix through a third-party. You should see some information that tells you who’s running your Netflix account.

How to cancel your Netflix subscription on an iPhone or iPad

If you signed up for Netflix through the iPhone or iPad app, it probably means that your Netflix account is linked to your Apple ID. In this case, you’ll need to cancel through the Apple ID menu.

1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad and tap your name at the top of the page.

2. In the Apple ID menu that opens, tap Subscriptions.

3. Select Netflix from the list that appears, and then select Cancel Subscription. Confirm your choice.

How to cancel your Netflix subscription on an Android

Similarly, if you signed up for Netflix through the Android app, it’s likely linked to your Google account. This means that you’ll need to cancel through your Android’s Play Store app.

1. Open the Play Store app on your Android and tap your profile icon in the top-right corner.

2. In the menu that opens, tap Payments & subscriptions, and then Subscriptions.

With the news that Netflix is raising prices in the US and Canada, you may be annoyed right now and wondering how to cancel your Netflix account subscription. It’s very easy, and we’ll show you how to do it, regardless of what device you’re on. But you should also remember that if you share your account, it’s probably good to also change your Netflix password, so the person you share it with doesn’t restart your subscription.

QUICK ANSWER

To find out when your current billing period ends, go to your account page and look under the Membership & Billing section.

How to cancel your netflix subscription

Select the one you want to move to, click Continue and follow the on-screen prompts. Bear in mind before downgrading that you will lose access to some screens. The Premium plan gives you four different devices at the same time. By comparison, Standard only gives you two, and Basic gives you only one. If you’re sharing your account with anyone, this is something you need to consider.

How to delete your Netflix account

To delete your account entirely, cancel your subscription, then wait for ten months to pass. Once ten months are over, Netflix will automatically delete your account.

If for any reason, you want your account deleted sooner, Netflix advises you to email them from the email address registered on your Netflix account. Their email is [email protected], and they will process your request. But the account will not be deleted until the end of your current billing period unless you’re very insistent that it has to be done immediately.

Can I pause my Netflix account?

Yes. Cancel your subscription, and as long as you sign in again within ten months of that cancellation, your account will be as you left it. You can then resubscribe to a plan to start things again.

Can I get a refund if I cancel my Netflix subscription early?

No, Netflix doesn’t issue any prorated refunds. If you cancel your subscription, you can still access Netflix programs until the current billing period ends.

Can I restart my Netflix membership?

Yes, you can. If you merely cancel the subscription, you can sign in to the same account and restart your subscription. However, to access your viewing history, recommendations, and ratings, you must sign in within ten months of canceling your subscription. After that, Netflix will delete your entire account.

If your Netflix account has been deleted, you will need to make a new account if you decide to come back later.

Are there any penalties for cancellation?

You can’t get a refund and you won’t get prorated for any month you’ve already started, but once you cancel you won’t be charged for any subsequent months.

Netflix has a plethora of shows including original content. But you might want to cancel your subscription. Perhaps you find that the original content isn’t your cup of tea. Maybe you want to save money for a couple of months. Or, perhaps you want to cancel for a few months and then come back at a later date.

Whatever the case, if you no longer need or want your subscription to Netflix here’s how to cancel it.

Cancel Netflix

To get started, launch a browser and log into your Netflix account. Once you’re logged in click on your account picture in the upper-right corner. Then choose Account from the dropdown menu.

How to cancel your netflix subscription

Then, simply click the Cancel Membership button under the “Membership & Billing section. It’s located right at the top of your Account page.

Next, a screen will come up that asks you to verify your cancellation. It will also offer you to stick around by switching to a Basic plan. From that screen click the blue Finish Cancellation button.

How to cancel your netflix subscription

That’s all there is to it. Note that you will still have access to the streaming service until the next billing cycle. So, depending on your billing cycle, you might just want to cancel the day after. That will ensure you still have a full month until your cancellation goes into effect.

Canceling Netflix is a good way to avoid “Subscription Fatigue”. That’s where you have too many streaming services and are tired of paying each month for all of them.

If you do have the subscription fatigue, it’s a good idea to just cancel all your services. Then you can go one-by-one and subscribe again to the service that has the show you want to watch. You are only interested in The Witcher, for example. You can save money by canceling Netflix until the next season arrives.

It’s also important to note that if you do cancel and restart again within 10 months it saves your settings and preferences. Your “watchlist”, “previously watched”, and “watch again” rows, for example.

How to cancel your netflix subscription

Netflix brought the TV watching experience to the next level. Fresh new content is always coming in and you can never get bored using Netflix.

But sometimes, the vast choice of movies and TV shows can become too much to bear. You can fall into a trap and feel obligated to watch everything at once.

If you feel like Netflix is taking over your life, it’s a good idea to stop subscribing to it. Some users decide to cancel because of budget constraints, and some simply want to check out other options for a while. Whatever your reasons may be, you can cancel your subscription at any time without facing negative consequences. Cancelling is equally simple for free trial users and people who’ve been using Netflix for years.

Before You Cancel Your Netflix Free Trial

To start your free trial, you only need a valid credit card and an email address. When you register an account, you can immediately use all the benefits of your subscription plan. If you don’t want to lose these benefits, consider downgrading your plan instead of straight up cancelling it.

Netflix has a regular, standard, and premium plan, which vary in price depending on the additional features they provide. Whichever option you go for, it’s still cheaper than cable.

How to Cancel Your Netflix Membership

The steps for cancelling a Netflix membership are the same whether you are still on your free trial or you are already a long-term member. To cancel your subscription, simply do the following:

  1. Log into your Netflix account with a browser or using the app.
  2. Once you open it, click on the arrow in the top right corner.
  3. You will get a dropdown menu, and you need to select Account.
  4. At the top of the page, you will see the Membership & Billing section, and your credentials will be listed next to it.
  5. You’ll notice the “Cancel Membership” button right below it.

  6. Click on it and you will be taken to another window which asks you to confirm your decision.
  7. Click on Finish Cancellation.
  8. You can Go Back if you get cold feet.
How to cancel your netflix subscription

You should know that your trial won’t be instantly terminated. You will be able to use your Netflix account regularly until the end of the month (that is, until the end of the billing period in which you started the trial). In case you have a leftover promo balance or a gift card, you can keep using your account until this balance is spent.

If you have no balance, your account will get disabled. You have 10 months to change your mind, and then your account details, watch list, and profiles get deleted. If you choose to return to Netflix during that period, everything will be waiting for you.

Do I Get Notified of Netflix Free Trial Expiring?

Netflix isn’t one of those money-grubbing corporations that are only after your money and are willing to trick you to get it. While it is true that they will charge you automatically for the next month if you don’t cancel your membership, they will notify you in time.

Netflix will also send a notification to your mobile phone or email if your free trial is about to expire. They even do it three days in advance, so you can think about it and decide whether you want to stay.

Word of Advice

If you enjoyed your time using Netflix, here is a tip for you. Netflix actually encourages people to share their accounts among friends and family. If you choose the premium option, you can have up to four people using Netflix simultaneously on separate screens on one account.

When you split the bill in four, everyone pays a few dollars and stays happy. Just be careful and don’t get your account stolen because you gave away your password to someone irresponsible.

End of the Road

It is up to you whether or not you will continue using Netflix. It is a well-crafted and user-friendly service, and people usually end up coming back to it. You can change mind anytime, nobody is pressuring you.

The slow but inevitable fraying of the cable TV bundle continues unabated. One major network after the other is relenting and finally appeasing cord-cutters with online-only streaming packages that don’t require a cable subscription.

As a result, the modern customer today is faced with an ever increasing number of options. If you’ve arrived at the conclusion that Netflix no longer offers the biggest bang for your buck and want to cancel your streaming plan, you’ve come to the right place.

In this step-by-step tutorial, we’ll take you through the process of cancelling your Netflix membership and closing your account, regardless of whether you signed up for the service through the website or on your Apple TV or iOS device. As a bonus, we’ll also lay out how to easily rejoin Netflix later on.

Life after canceling Netflix, reactivating your account and more

Cancelling your Netflix streaming plan early won’t abruptly end the service—you’re allowed to keep watching movies and television shows on Netflix until the end of your current billing period, even if you’re in a free trial.

After closing your account, Netflix will keep your watch activity, recommendations and ratings for up to ten months. U.S. customers who also use Netflix’s DVD plan can choose to continue using that service after cancelling their streaming plan.

If you also cancel your DVD plan and were receiving DVDs or Blu-ray discs by mail, Netflix will keep your queue for ten months but make sure to return them to Netflix within seven days of closing your account, or you’ll be charged for the discs.

Should you change your mind and decide that you’d like to restart your streaming or DVD plan, Netflix makes it easy to pick up right where you left off simply by logging to your account.

How to cancel Netflix

Cancelling a streaming plan will stop membership charges going forward.

If your Netflix account was created through an Apple TV or within the official Netflix app for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, you must cancel your subscription via iTunes.

As mentioned, people who cancel their streaming plan with time left in their billing period can continue streaming until their account closes automatically at the beginning of their next billing cycle.

If you’re billed through iTunes:

1) On your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, go to Settings → iTunes & App Store and tap your Apple ID account name at the top.

2) Tap your Apple ID and then View Apple ID in the pop-up menu.

This will stop your Netflix subscription at the end of the current billing cycle. You can enjoy Netflix until the end of your current billing period.

Tip: If you don’t see a Netflix subscription and are still being charged, make sure that you’re signed in with the correct Apple ID. It’s also possible that you might have subscribed directly through Netflix and not through iTunes.

If you’re billed through Netflix:

1) Use your desktop browser to log in to Netflix at netflix.com/account.

Restarting your Netflix plan

Don’t worry about canceling your streaming plan: you can rejoin the service at any time.

To resume your streaming plan with Netflix billing, simply click the Restart Membership link on the Your Account page on the Netflix website. In case your account is inactive, you’ll be asked to restart your membership once you sign in to Netflix and the billing date will change to the date you restarted your membership.

You can update your Netflix payment method using the web interface.

It may be time to pull the plug.

    Key points

    • Netflix is, for many people, a low-cost means of entertainment.
    • There may come a point when it pays to cancel your subscription.

We all need a way to decompress at the end of the day and enjoy some downtime. And to that end, Netflix is a great solution. At a fairly reasonable price point of $15.49 a month for its standard plan, Netflix is a competitively priced streaming service that’s known for churning out a lot of fresh content.

But there may come a point when paying for Netflix no longer makes sense. If these signs apply to you, you may want to cancel that recurring charge on your credit card.

    1. You’re too busy to use it

If you spend several hours a week watching Netflix, then it’s pretty easy to justify its cost. But if life has gotten busy, to the point where you can’t remember the last time you actually used your account, then it’s probably time to cancel it.

The great thing about Netflix is that you’re not forced to commit to a year-long subscription. Rather, you can pay for it on a month-to-month basis. If you cancel now but find that you have more downtime in a few months, you can always re-up your subscription at that point. But there’s no sense in paying for a service you can’t take advantage of.

    2. You’re struggling with bills

If you’re able to swing the cost of Netflix and enjoy using it, then there’s nothing wrong with keeping your subscription. But if you’re struggling to make ends meet, to the point where you’ve been dipping into your savings or racking up debt just to cover your everyday bills, then it may be time to unload some of your non-essential expenses — and Netflix falls into that category.

Right now, living costs are up across the board due to inflation, and many consumers are struggling in the wake of higher gas, grocery, and utility bills. Those are things you can’t easily cut back on. But you can make the tough decision to stop paying for things like Netflix temporarily as you work on shoring up your finances and perhaps boosting your income with a second job.

    3. You’ve gotten bored with the content

Although Netflix prides itself on a wide range of content, it may be that you’ve already worked your way through most of the series that appeal to you. And if you’re at the point where you can’t find something you’re excited to watch on Netflix, then it’s probably time to cancel your subscription.

There are plenty of other streaming services that might give you access to fresh content that’s more interesting to you. And if you take a few months off from Netflix and sign up again in the fall, by then, there may be plenty of fresh content for you to enjoy.

Netflix certainly isn’t an unreasonable expense — but it’s only worth paying for under the right circumstances. If any of these things apply to you, you may want to cancel that subscription (at least temporarily) rather than spend money on it for no good reason.

IF you’ve ever wanted to cancel Netflix you’ll be pleased to know it’s a pretty easy process.

Whether you want a break from subscription fees or have seen everything you wanted to watch, just follow the steps below to easily cancel Netflix.

How to cancel your netflix subscription

    1) How can I cancel my Netflix subscription?

Cancelling your Netflix subscription is rather easy, but bear in mind that this method is strictly for those going through the process on a computer or laptop device.

When cancelling your subscription on your phone, the procedure is slightly different.

On your computer, sign in to your account and click the download arrow at the top right corner of the page – you should see this right next to your profile name.

  • From there, select the “Account” section which should bring up a number of options.
  • Right underneath “Membership and billing” should be a grey box with the option to cancel the streaming service subscription.

After that, click on “Finish Cancellation” which will confirm the action with a page indicating the remaining days of your current membership.

  • A follow-up email from Netflix will then usually tell you what day the on-demand content will no longer be available on your account – unless you were to renew your plan.
  • 2) Can I also cancel Netflix from my phone?

How to cancel your netflix subscription

If you’d find it easier to cancel your subscription from your phone, or you don’t have access to a computer, here’s an easy way to cancel from a mobile device.

Open the official Netflix app, click on the “More” tab and select “Account” from the list of options, which should open a separate web page.

It will send you directly to your details, including billing information, and as you scroll down, there should be a “Cancel Membership” tab in grey.

Upon clicking this button, there will be a rundown of when your subscription will expire once cancelling the monthly service.

  • You’ll now have to press the “Finish Cancellation” button in blue, which should take care of the rest – congratulations, you’re no longer tied to monthly payments of Netflix.
  • 3) Is it free to cancel Netflix?

Yes, it is free to cancel Netflix.

The Netflix website states: “There are no contracts, no cancellation fees, and no commitments. “You have the freedom to change your plan or cancel online at any time if you decide Netflix isn’t for you.

“Don’t worry, your access to Netflix won’t end until the end of your current billing cycle.”

But given the number of great shows the streaming giant offers, we’re sure you won’t be leaving for too long.

In other news, Facebook will no longer recommend “political or civil” groups to users.

Scam emails claiming that the recipient has been selected to receive a coronavirus vaccine have been highlighted by concerned experts.

And, Apple has warned that the iPhone 12 could ‘interfere’ with pacemakers.

Netflix is great for getting your fill of on-demand movies, but it’s not the only movie-streaming service out there. Perhaps your head has been turned by the delights of Amazon Prime or NowTV (both of which have free trials available – sign up to Prime or sign up to NowTV here), you’re annoyed by a Netflix price hike, or maybe your free trial is simply nearing its end and you don’t want to be charged. Either way, here’s how to unsubscribe from Netflix.

    1. Sign into Netflix and select any profile
    2. Click on the downward arrow at the top right corner of the page
    3. Choose Account
    4. Under Membership & Billing click the grey ‘Cancel Membership’ button
    5. If you’re certain you want to cancel click the blue ‘Finish subscription’ button
    6. Your Netflix membership will end with your current billing period

Handily, Netflix will keep details of what you watched during your time spent with the service for one whole year after you close your account, so you’ll be able to return to Netflix with all your personalised recommendations intact if you want to.

How to cancel your Netflix membership on Apple TV

If you set up your Netflix account through iTunes (probably on the Apple TV) and therefore use iTunes billing to pay for the service, you’ll need to go through slightly different steps to unsubscribe.

On your iOS device, you’ll need to go to the iOS App Store, and then tap Featured. From there, scroll to the bottom of the page and tap on your Apple ID (it’ll say Apple ID: and your email address will be here). Then tap View App ID.

After entering your password, you’ll come to your account page. Scroll down and tap Manage App Subscriptions (if you don’t see that option, you probably don’t pay through iTunes after all so you’ll need to follow the steps in the section above).

When you find the subscription you want to manage, tap it and then turn off auto-renewal.

If you don’t have an iOS device you can use iTunes on your computer. Sign in, and then go to Store > View Account from the navigation bar at the top (you may be prompted to enter your password).

There, scroll to the Settings section and you’ll see a button that says ‘Manage’ to the right of Subscriptions. Click that.

You can now turn off Auto-Renewal here, which will cancel your subscription.

Still if sometimes your mood’s changed about it and you want to again subscribe to it. Then there is a good thing for all of you that their profile, preferences, favorites, and account details will be there on a file with Netflix.

TV shows and Movie streaming apps such as Netflix have become an integral part of keeping the entertainment mode on. I must appreciate that today Netflix has such a vast collection of entertainment content that it can match any mood – romantic, action, adventure, horror, science fiction – you name it! For some people, the addiction is so high that they can watch the entire episodes/seasons in one go. But then there must be a limit to this screen addiction. Right? So, if you think you have had enough of Netflix or that its addiction is spoiling your productivity – it’s time to delete your Netflix account for the good. In this post today, I will share how to delete a Netflix account easily in 2022. So, for whatever wonderful reasons you might have decided to quit your Netflix account, in this guide you will appreciate how quickly and easily this can be done.

Benefits of deleting a Netflix account

I am not against Netflix. It’s a good movie streaming app that has revolutionized the way the current generation consumes entertainment. However, there has to be some restraint.

How to cancel your netflix subscription

Too much of a compulsive desire to keep watching endless TV seasons, episodes and movies on Netflix can seriously hamper your personal and social life. It’s awesome if you’ve decided to delete your Netflix account for these reasons. Here are some additional benefits of deleting a Netflix account and quitting it forever for the good:

    • You will save time and money. Though a Netflix subscription is not very expensive, but then why even waste that money to breed your addiction?
    • Better productivity at work – A calm mind can be a lot more productive than a mind pre-occupied with anxious/agitated movie scenes.
    • Your psychological health will drastically improve. A majority of TV shows and movies on Netflix are full of violence, blood-shed, strong language and obscene actions. Surely, watching such movies might seem a cool way to chill, relax and forget about your real life for a few hours. But what about its psychological and behavioral damage? Don’t feed yourself such negativity and bereft your mind of the peace it deserves!
    • Once you quit this compulsive desire for sense gratification, your social and real-life connections will improve drastically.
    • An addiction to distraction is the death of your productivity and creative production. Delete your Netflix account to escape all these negativities in your life.

Should you delete a Netflix profile OR a Netflix account?

How to cancel your netflix subscription

Many people confuse a Netflix profile with a Netflix account. For social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter, when you delete a profile or an account, it means the same. However, deleting a profile on Netflix differs from deleting an account.

Here is how deleting a Netflix profile is different from deleting a Netflix account

A profile allows you to personalize your experience with Netflix. You create it to build your own preferred list of movies and TV shows, add reviews, language preferences and pretty much everything that allows you to enjoy a personalized experience. Netflix allows you to create up to 5 profiles with a single account. You can delete all the profiles on Netflix except the main profile. The main profile is the one you created initially when you first signed up for a Netflix membership. To delete your main profile, you have to delete your account on Netflix.

A Netflix account is your gateway to access Netflix, including the profiles you’ve created. What does this mean? Simple! When you delete a Netflix profile, you only delete your personalized experience. But when you delete a Netflix account, it deletes everything that’s associated with your Netflix account ID, including your Netflix profiles as well.

Step-by-Step guide to delete a Netflix account permanently

Follow these steps to delete a Netflix account permanently:

    Step 1: Cancel your membership

Visit the Netflix account cancellation page and cancel your membership. Cancellation comes into force at the end of your current billing cycle.

For example, if you signed up for a Netflix account on January 1 st 2021, then your cancellation request will come into effect on 2 nd February 2021, i.e. after expiry of your current billing cycle. Meanwhile, you can continue to enjoy Netflix.

If you do not remember your billing cycle, you can visit their billing details page.

Step 2: Don’t login and restart your membership for at-least 10 months

As per Netflix’s policy, accounts that remain cancelled for over 10 months are deleted automatically. So, your next task after cancelling your account is to leave it as it is. Do not login and restart your membership again.

    For early account deletion

If you are decisive that you want to give up Netflix immediately, why wait for 10 months? For an early deletion of your Netflix account, you just have to send an email to [email protected] from the same email ID that you used to sign up for a Netflix account. In your email message, state that you have successfully placed cancellation request on so and so date, and now you want Netflix to delete your account as early as possible.

    For inactive Netflix accounts

If you are a former Netflix member or someone who used his email id to sign up for an account but somehow did not start the membership, please send an email to [email protected] from your registered email address and request your Netflix account to be deleted.

And that’s how you can delete your Netflix account. Wasn’t that easy?

What Netflix doesn’t delete even after you have deleted your account?

As per its terms of use policy, there are a few things which Netflix keeps even after you have successfully deleted your account. These are:

    • Your email address, which you used to sign up
    • The device (mobile/tablet/PC) information associated with your account. For example, if I signed up for Netflix using my iPad Pro using an email id like [email protected], Netflix will keep both the information stored in its system.
    • Method of payment

As per the terms and use of Netflix, it keeps this information for lawful reasons and accounting purposes so that Netflix can match these details in case someone signs up again using the same email address, device or payment method. But it won’t ever use these details to contact you or even charge your payment method once you have deleted your account.

So, if you are deleting your Netflix account and hope that Netflix will again offer you a free trial when you sign up again using a new email address, think again! It has your device ID and payment method stored. This hack won’t work.
